Dezeen: “familiar yet exclusive” winery buildings in California

Dezeen published Fulldraw Winery under the headline “Clayton Korte creates ‘familiar yet exclusive’ winery buildings in California” — a fair reading of what proprietors Connor and Rebecca McMahon asked us for.

The steel-framed fermentation building responds to topography, sun and prevailing breeze, with open-air spaces that cross-ventilate, use night cooling and work in ample daylight. An integrated photovoltaic system reduces the winery's draw on the utility.

The palette mirrors the durable materials already on the ranch: painted and weathered steel, burnished concrete masonry bearing walls and fibre cement cladding. Fulldraw has since been recognised by the Architecture MasterPrize, AIA Central Coast, the LOOP Design Awards and the DNA Paris Design Awards.
